Ancient history and cutting-edge film technique are a thrilling combination in this stirring adaptation of Frank Miller’s epic graphic novel about the Battle of Thermopylae, in which the king of Sparta led 300 soldiers against the invading hordes of the Persian army. Director Zack Snyder scored with this original achievement, a shot-for-shot adaptation of the comic book that delivers visually stunning, rousing entertainment. Gerard Butler (The Phantom Of The Opera) is a commanding Leonidas, matched by Lena Headey (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) as his strong-willed queen, whose passion and powers of persuasion prove vital to their mission.
About this set:
This Limited Collector's Edition includes the exciting film plus two additional discs of special features, all in one collector's package.
Disc 2 includes more than 90 minutes of epic extras, among them The 300: Fact Or Fiction, in which authors, historians and filmmakers reveal how much of the film was based on fact; Who Were the Spartans: The Warriors of 300, exploring the customs and ways of life of the Spartans; the Frank Miller Tapes, candid discussions with the outspoken author sounding off about realizing his epic graphic novel on film; a Making Of 300 featurette; a still photo montage; and deleted scenes.
The never-before-released Disc 3 presents To The Hot Gates: A Legend Retold, which goes in-depth about the "300" legend, tracing its evolution from graphic novel to screen.
Rotten: 300 has one-dimensional caricatures who talk like professional wrestlers plugging their next feud.
-Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times, August 08, 2008Rotten: Despite all the visual trickery and slick filmmaking, it can't really hide that underneath is a vehicle as clunky, empty and vacuous as a mediocre comic adaptation
-Garth Franklin, Dark Horizons, April 24, 2007Rotten:
-, In Film Australia, April 18, 2007Fresh: In this handsome pantomime, the performances are not what we are watching.
-Wendy Ide, Times [UK], April 14, 2007
My husband and I both like movies with great scope, photography and intelligent casting. I've wanted to see this one for some time, as he had already seen it and had mentioned it to me more than a few times. This movie ranks right up there with "Gladiator", "Spartacus" and any other movie from this genre. Gerard Butler was convincing in his role and we thoroughly enjoyed the entire movie. Highly recommended, but perhaps it's not meant for children under 13 or so to watch, as it is rather graphic.

I saw this movie on TV. I was so taken with it, I had to own it. Gerard plays such a powerful roll as Leonidas, you would think that it was written just for him and him alone to play. For there is NO one else that could have played the part. The movie is well written, all the parts well played, my kids said it was too bloody, but I think not.
